On April 8, Provost Deborah Prentice and Executive Vice President Treby Williams emailed all staff the following message:
For two years now, Princeton University staff have risen to every challenge brought on by the pandemic. You ensured that our operations continued to run smoothly to support our teaching and research mission while at the same time developing and adapting to new policies, practices, protocols, regulations, and ways of working. Someone once described this process as “changing the tires on a moving bus,” which is often how these past two years have felt.
It is not lost on us that not only did you continually rise to every challenge, but you did so with grace and through collaboration – a core strength that is at the heart of our institution. You have exemplified grace under fire, demonstrating goodwill, cooperation, and commitment to the University and to each other.
As a tangible expression of our deep gratitude for all your efforts, we are pleased to offer three “bonus” paid days off for this year only. These extra days off will include Tuesday, May 31, 2022, after the Memorial Day holiday; Monday, June 20, 2022, after the Juneteenth holiday; and Tuesday, July 5, 2022, after the July 4 holiday.
As we extend this time off to help renew your spirit and energy, we understand that some staff need to maintain essential operations by working on these days. Union staff should consult their contracts and speak with their union representatives regarding pay for time worked on these days. Non-union staff who are required to work should talk with their supervisors regarding pay for time worked on these days or guidance about alternative days off, as applicable. If you manage others, please contact your senior HR manager with any questions.
