October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer is currently the most common cancer globally, and in the United States, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Preventive screenings can result in early detection which can lead to less aggressive treatments and higher survival rates.
The Princeton University Mammography Program, available to you and your loved ones, will take place from October 7 through October 31. The University has partnered with Princeton Radiology to offer convenient mammogram appointment times, including early mornings, evenings, and Saturdays. To schedule a mammogram, you will need a prescription from your primary care doctor or gynecologist. On the day of the appointment, you will need to bring your mammogram prescription, medical plan ID card, driver’s license, and the phone and fax numbers of the doctor(s) who you want to receive your results. If you’ve previously had a mammogram at a different facility, it’s strongly recommended that you provide those results to Princeton Radiology prior to your appointment or bring them with you to your appointment.

You do not need to be enrolled in a Princeton medical plan to use this program, but you should check with your medical plan to confirm your coverage. If you or your dependent are enrolled in a Princeton medical plan and use one of the locations above or any independent in-network provider, a preventive mammogram is covered at 100% once per calendar year for those age 35 and over. Costs for radiological services vary greatly between hospital-based locations and independent facilities while quality remains comparable. Therefore, consider using an independent in-network radiology facility whenever possible. For assistance locating a primary care doctor or an independent in-network facility, contact Health Advocate at (866) 695-8622 or Castlight at (866) 207-6344.
In the event you or your loved one is faced with a cancer diagnosis, reliable information and comprehensive care are crucial. MSK Direct, through Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, provides direct access to a team of professionals who specialize in cancer care. If you are enrolled in a Princeton medical plan, you have access to MSK as an in-network provider. For more information, visit MSK Direct or call (844) 303-2123.
